The annual Graduation ceremony for the Heart of Life Centre, for the SILOAM, the Spiritual Direction program, was held in the chapel of St Paschal's, Box Hill, November 21st.
The ceremony was hosted by the director, Paul Beirne, along with the staff.
Amongst the full-time graduates was Sister Mary Manuera OLSH, from Kiribati (and sister of the late Nicora Manuera MSC, well-known to many in Australia). She is pictured with the OLSH Sisters who joined her for the ceremony, from the Bentleigh community as well as a group of international sisters at present studying in Melbourne.
Amongst the other graduates (who came from Malaysia, New Zealand, India via the Philippines) were Sister Marie O'Shea SGS, who has spent many years in Kiribati and Margaret Hughes who has spent many years in Darwin in education. (Mary Manuera is seen second right, Margaret on her left, Marie to her right).
The first Siloam program was held in 1980 at Croydon under the leadership of Brian Gallagher. It has continued annually since 1982, with Brian, Susan Richardson PBVM and Cheryl Bourke PBVM and continues, available in recent years to a larger number of international spiritual directors.d
