Celebrating 100 Years!!

Even though the Sisters first came to Australia in 1885, the new group needed to have been adequately established before they could become an independent Province within the International context of the Order.

Margaret Sweeney, from Ryde, New South Wales, met the Sisters and became the first Australian Daughter of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. In time, other Australians joined the Congregation. Consequently, the Australian Province of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart was officially born on 8th September, 1911!!

As the missionary works of the Sisters grew, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati (formerly the Gilbert Islands) and the Philippines became Regions of the Australian Province. Today, Papua New Guinea and Kiribati have become their own Province with their own missionary endeavours.

We invite you to keep a lookout on this website for opportunities to celebrate with us throughout the year.
